Vista Battery Saver

A battery saver application that enhances Vista actual energy saving settings

Most operating systems allow you to set different behaviors while a laptop is being used on battery or with ac power.

So when we are using the battery, the LCD screen gets dimmer and turns off after a few minutes, system activates stand by or hibernation quicker or it do it immediately if the screen lid is closed and so on.
However those are not the only activities that consume energy in Windows, using some programs could affect system resources and therefore decrease battery lifetime. In Windows Vista, there are even more way to lose your precious battery time, its new aero interface (transparent windows borders) and sidebar application consumes a lot of system resources, which obviously you could permanently disable but then you may ask yourself why I’m using Vista after all.
Vista Battery Saver helps you to enjoy Vista eye candy aero interface and multitasking sidebar, enabling or disabling them depending on your power setting preferences (behaviors on battery or ac power) just like you normally do with the LCD screen brightness and standby / hibernation options.
I highly recommend this program, I thought I wasn’t suffering the Vista Battery Consumption syndrome because my old Latitude D600 can’t even run aero; unfortunately for my surprise, I installed Windows xp on a second partition and my battery lifetime increased. Using Vista Battery Saver I found that even if sidebar wasn’t displayed on the screen, it was running in the background, after using the default settings it includes, my battery lifetime in Vista increased!

Pros

  • The program reduces more power consumption than Vista energy settings by disabling aero and sidebar when is required
  • Free
  • Easy-to-use
  • Small download

Cons

  • The most energy saver feature is disabling Aero, which do not apply for most users that have Vista Home Basic
